Salt Lake City's chances of bringing the Winter Olympics back to the U.S. in 2034 received a boost today with the IOC's exec board supporting a recommendation to grant a dual award of the 2030 and 2034 Games simultaneously. That recommendation will go to a discussion of the membership during the IOC session in Mumbai, where members are expected to rubber stamp the executive board's decision. The future host commission will make its recommendation on which potential hosts should enter into a targeted dialogue by November, and the IOC's executive board will decide on that in the same month. It plans to pick hosts for 2030 and 2034 during its session before the Paris Olympics in July. Salt Lake City has requested to enter the targeted dialogue phase after refining its bid over the past decade. It hosted the last Winter Olympics in the United States in 2002, and it has maintained its venues with a view on hosting again beginning more than a decade ago. More …
